Danh Võ is known for his conceptual practice that examines the entangled legacies of colonialism, migration, religion and authorship. Working across sculpture, installation, found objects and text, Võ’s practice is characterised by an attention to material history and the ways in which personal narratives intersect with larger geopolitical structures. His work often mobilises fragments—objects, documents, and inscriptions—allowing multiple meanings to emerge through juxtaposition rather than didactic explanation. Over the past two decades, Võ has become one of the most influential artists of his generation, with a practice that has reshaped contemporary approaches to sculpture, authorship, and historical narrative.
Võ’s largest and most ambitious projects include We the People, 2010–16, a full-scale, fragmented replica of the Statue of Liberty realised across institutions worldwide, and Take My Breath Away, 2018, a major survey and site-responsive installation occupying the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Hugo Boss Prize, 2012, and has been the subject of major solo exhibitions at the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; and the National Gallery of Denmark. His work is held in premier international collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Tate, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; and the National Gallery of Denmark, København.
